Duncklee & Dunham is currently
managing
three
sites in compliance with
the procedures
in
the NC
DENR
Registered Environmental Consultant (REC) program,
with several others expected to begin
in late 2008 and early 2009.
Duncklee & Dunham personnel offer proven superfund
remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS)
services in addition to experience with the many now
well-established State lead voluntary cleanups.
The senior staff has authored seven major RI/FS Work
Plans and RI/FS Reports. Six of these seven work
plans were for sites regulated by US EPA Region 4.
Numerous State lead sites have also been managed by
the senior staff.
Mr. Dunham is conducting remedial activities at a
Virginia site due to a release of liquid nitrogen
fertilizer from a surface impoundment. The site is
regulated by the Virginia DEQ Voluntary Remedial
Program. Initial work involved drilling
activities which included the installation of
telescoping (multi-cased) ground water monitoring
wells to depths up to 275 feet in limestone bedrock.
Packer testing was performed during the drilling and
well installation activities to aid in determining
well depths and screen intervals.
A
major oil terminal and adjacent property on the Ohio
River in Kentucky has been assessed by Mr. Dunham
under the National Contingency Plan. Unique
challenges of this project include reversal of typical
hydraulic gradients due to river flood stages along
with complex clay and sand stratigraphy. Duncklee &
Dunham has prepared and is implementing a successful
Corrective Action Plan to complete site assessment
activities and effect ground water remediation across
multiple release areas. MIP assessment, air sparging,
soil vapor extraction, a dewatering system combined
with ex-situ chemical oxidation, bioaugmentation, and
infiltration, and a 2 MGD pump and treat system
are all being used in unison to expedite the cleanup
and to protect a nearby municipal well field.
